CJSF (California Junior Scholarship Federation)
Overview of CJSF
The purpose of CJSF shall be to foster high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship on part of California students in grades seven through nine, and to promote appropriate activities among its members. The goal of the organization is to emphasize service to the school, to the community while fostering pride in scholastic achievement.
CJSF Membership
Membership in CJSF is granted for the trimester following the one in which the qualifying grades were earned, and is for that trimester only (you must reapply every trimester to maintain your membership in CJSF). In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each trimester the student is eligible. All grades earned the previous semester must be equivalent of C or better. A grade of D or F shall debar membership for that semester.
How to you quality to be a member of CJSF?
The academic courses that are used to qualify your membership are : English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. A student establishes membership by earning academic points. For membership, the number of points earned must be twice the number of academic subjects in which the student is enrolled. In other words, if you are enrolled in four academic subjects, you must earn at least eight points to be a member of CJSF.
A grade of “A” counts as 3 CJSF points.
A grade of “B” counts as 1 CJSF point.
A grade of “C” counts at 0 CJSF points.
One additional point shall be granted for a grade of “A” or “B” in an Honors course, up to a maximum of two such points per semester can be earned.
6th Grade Super Members
In order to qualify as a 6th Grade Super Member, you must join CJSF both eligible trimesters in 6th grade. Super Members earn a certificate for their membership and a Tillamook Ice Cream Tasting with over 10 flavors of ice cream to try! Don't miss out, join CJSF!
Don't forget to join in the Fall of 7th grade so you can join us on our campus tours!
Pre-Honors Members
If order to quality for pre-honors status at JWMS, you must join CJSF for two trimesters in 7th grade. Once you have achieved pre-honors status, you will earn a CJSF Club Lanyard. Please wear your lanyards on campus to help promote our club and our commitment to academic excellence and community service.
Honors Members
In order to qualify for honors membership, you must earn membership for TWO trimesters in 7th grade and TWO trimesters in 8th grade. Honors membership will be indicated in your cumulative record which is sent to the student’s next school (high school). In addition you will receive a CJSF honors pin, a purple honors medallion and a golden seal on your promotion certificate.
4.0 GPA Members
Any student who received a perfect 4.0 GPA upon promotion at JWMS and is a member of CJSF
will also receive a CJSF gold medallion award engraved with their name.
Honors and Awards
CJSF students may also become seal bearers or Honor Award members. Those who qualify have the Honor Award seal placed on their certificate of promotion and are eligible to wear the CJSF gold pin. CJSF also sponsors an awards program. Each year, advisers nominate two outstanding members for special recognition in the CJSF Outstanding Student Award program. All nominees are recognized at their spring conferences, receiving award certificates. Those selected as winners by regional subcommittees are presented with a $250 award and medallion, in addition to the certificate.
Students who are members of CJSF at JWMS, will quality to be a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) at CCHS, PSHS, RMHS or DHSHS
as Freshman provided their grades meet the requirements.
Community Service
Students who join CJSF at JWMS are encouraged to complete at least 10 community service hours per trimester (30 hours total per year). The club advisor will provide you with a list of options for your community service on campus at meetings. You are also welcome to bring your requests for community service projects for organizations in the community. The club advisor will offer some community service projects on campus and off campus to complete as a club with advisor supervision. When you promote in 8th grade, a certificate with all of your hours completed will be given to you (to use for your high school resume for college or jobs). A special award will be given to members who complete over100 hours of community service while at James Workman Middle School.
